Ah fantastic! Very inspiring.

The image with the apple is so clever and simple, and the one with the police- and fireman is insane!

I want to see the South African lists, looking for SA photo sites that embrace conceptual work :)

Some really cool shots. Maybe I am just slow this morning, but based on the introduction

Conceptual photography essentially is the photographer trying to convey a message or "concept". Usually this message is conveyed through some abstract symbolism which can be interpreted by the viewer. Even though most photographers have a specific meaning they are trying to get across, usually the image can be interpreted in many different ways

I struggle to see / get the consept in most of these,.. so a challenge / question....

How many can you explain?

Well I sort of seem to think of this conceptual business as a story put into a shot or just simply something that is cool (think desktop wallpapers) as opposed to fashion/glamour where it's about prettiness.

Anyhow that said, there's a FAIR amount of pictures on there, pick one or two to discuss... think there haven't been any takers cause no-one wants to write a massive in-depth analysis of every single 1

fair enough explanation of your understanding of conceptual.
one of the reasons for my response is the question: is it conceptual because it is not about prettiness?

As examples
the first one Alexander Gubin
make that the first Four
the apple shot that some mentioned earlier....

comment on whichever you want or all mentioned... and big question is "what is the Concept"

I am very much into conceptual photography for personal projects. I just don't have as much time as I would like.

For me it is about ambiguity in the message. I have a specific message i want to portray in my images, but like art, it is subjective. Many people will see a different message, or perhaps none at all.

What message do you see here?

the photos make you think. You put together a message from what you see.

Thats how i see it.

@Freebs
Why the ambiguity? I follow the idea that you may have a message, but if it is TOO ambiguous then it is (or can become) just a photo with (to use your image) Christian symbols?

@GeeCee
what you are saying suggests that the viewer decides whether it is conceptual? Maybe the tog thought it was just a cool image - no mind blowing concept. Is this just looking for something more meaningfull that just a good image?

Gonna highjack my own thread and put something out there...

This is something I'd REALLY dig to do...
Some kind of conceptual shots relating to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4L_DQKCDgeM

Perhaps a show of hands who'd be interested to collaborate?
