Hehe - essential of course. When there's no budget just buy a roast chicken, cut it up and make a quick tossed salad. Add a roll or chiabatta bread and you have a meal for 4 for around R 80!

We're doing the logistics for my trip to Namibia - 6 models shooting for 4 days, plus 3 days travelling. For food we'll buy fresh fish and crayfish direct from fishermen and cook it ourselves while in Luderitz :) The ability to cook becomes an asset to a photographer on trips like this ....

FEED THE CREW.

Oh hell no!!!

They should thank their lucky stars that I allow them to be in my glorious presence, I'm not going to feed them as well.

This thread should become the foremost thread on MB, if you flamed someone on the other threads you should make a point of coming back here and pay your dues... repair your karma.

So here goes: Oh.. I've just done that. Balance!

be proud to carry your camera around, keep the strap on that says canon 7d or 5d etc...

You never know when you might be approached by someone needing photographers.

Keeping with this sentiment. Always have business cards with you, you never know when youll meet someone that requires photographers. It happens more often than you think especially when you start networking in the right circles pertinent to your skills base.

I tried to make this thread sticky and it says it is now stuck somewhere... but I dont know where somewhere is...

Its important to restore the karma. it would have been nice if the karma could be handed out for something positive

There are only a very few photographers on modelbase who is capable of setting up the lights, posing the model and accurately selecting the end product and processing it to a T...

Therefore step one... concentrate on getting the lights perfect... when you can achieve a shoot with perfect lighting then move to step 2.

view some proper fashion magazines or magazines showing examples of what you wanna photograph and make suggestions to the model. If you can achieve that then move to step 3.

If you are capable of selecting the outfit that fits the pose then make suggestions to the model.

Explain to the model why you like a photo and let her explain why she likes it / or not. You will typically find they look for way different things in a pic... start looking for the same thing, start recognizing the reason why certain angles dont work (ever) and why some angles will ALWAYS work.

Create the right mood for the model, play some music, suggest mood, dont be part of the mood.

If you can do all of the above then you are one of about 10 people on modelbase that I know that can do it.

1 mouth, 2 ears... and something about silence which might be golden...

Analyse the images. Look at composition ito pose and lines. Try to figuere out the lighting set-up through looking at catch lights, shadows, hot spots ect.

Someone should make a watertight cardholder that you can fix to your body before getting dressed in the morning. Can't tell you how many times I look in my wallet for cards and find none, open up my wallet at home to put some in and there they are. WTF? Or you forget that you have ample in the car, or you take the car to the car wash or for a service and forget to put some in. Lost a lot of potential business by doing that.

Thus

Most of the models on MB is newbies...

Therefore, set up a meeting with your model, explain why your setup works like it works and why she should not expect a commercial studio like F8Images and IvokStudio.

Talk to your model and explain the shoot, what you expect from her and what she can expect from you. The better the communication at the start, the easier the expectations are managed.

Have a test shoot with the model. Let her bring some clothing items she feels comfortable, let her go through meaningful and meaningless poses and lots of them, then discuss the pics and show her why certain poses and certain angles do or do not work.

Then set up a well planned shoot and get great results because your newbie model is now educated. And life is a lot easier for other photographers as well.
