I want it. Now.

So did I... Unfortunately it wasnt shot at my studio, it was shot at Matchbox Studio's (Seans old studio, at the Lion Match factory)

So it's sort of like a 1/4-pipe but for photographers?

More or less... more like a corner of a swimming pool, if it had no water in it.

I am concerned at how turned on I am by that cyclorama. that is AWESOME!

It was rather spectaular... actually quite daunting at the sheer size of it. It was a lot bigger than the example I posted above.

Very nice lighting setup, Narc. May I ask why you were shooting at ISO 200 instead of 100? I always figured the lower the better? Maybe I'm missing something?

Thank you :)
The studio actually had fluorescent lighting. Seans high powered Brons can blow that out though, which is how he worked. My lighting is a lot less powerful, as my studio is a lot smaller. So we ended up working with the lights off, which made it quite dark. Basically the 200 watt modeling lamp on the vertical octo was the only thing lighting the scene, before firing.

My lens was "hunting" for a while. The native iso on the 5D is 100, but I had to go to iso200, because of the lighting I was after. Also the fastest sync speed I can get with my lights is 1/125, (Canon puts it at 1/250, but Ive never heard of anyone actually being able to get that). I wanted to freeeze some movement in the hair, but going to 1/125 would under expose the shots.

So I sacrificed the iso, to shoot at 1/100... anything slower would have blurred the hair movement. Also I was kinda after a darker, moody feel to the shots :)

Damn - so I got it wrong!
I'm doing some research as to why my Nikon's native ISO is 200, but it can be "boosted" to 100.

Now I'm curious!

Youre not wrong... Ive actually read what youve said elsewhere, so it may well be true. Its just Canons website states that iso100 is the native iso for the 5D... but theyre so full of shit, I guess they could be wrong...

I can get 1/250 with my 450d and my generic sls lighting set but with my elinchroms I have to go to 1/125.

Im under the impression it may be the triggering system Im using...
My IR trigerring system is ok, and have never had a misfire from them, but the sync speed is hampering.
Im after these http://radiopopper.com/products/
Which Ive heard are worth their weight in gold, when it comes to sync speeds and reliability. According to another thread I was reading on MM, you can achieve up to 1/200 on a 5D using these.

Nice one, Gerry! Thanks for the info, Narc.

I start running into problems at 1/250. I get black lines on the side of my shots.

So I normally shoot at ISO 100, 1/125 and vary my f-stop between 5.6 and 11.

Has anyone used the Profoto Air system? URL
Not cheap, but the sales guys from Sunshinecompany.co.za reckon they can sync at 1/1000th on their "fast" setting, and up to 300m. 8 Channel system.

That can be really useful for leaf shutter systems.
I haven't yet tried it, but am taking a serious look at it.

Yeah i use the cactus v2. apparently other people have been having problems and i know my shoot is over when my trigger gets tired lol but then again I dont have thousands of rands so the next step is cactus v8. Aparently much more reliable.

by some fluke I managed to sink my 1ds MIII to 1/500sec a few days ago on a sport shoot. using my 580 flash on "highspeed" triggering my pack.

Sean, do you think the success of that had something to do with a long burn on a powerful flash head (i.e. longer than 1/500th sec)?

I'm taking a serious look at winning the Powerball!

At the moment, leaf systems and Profoto and fancy matchbox studios are the stuff dreams are made of.

Ok, another fairly simple dramatic setup. I remember this ratio, because of the latitude :)

Ermmm... Im not sure what to say... this is so sudden ;)

I have another one, very similar to the last post, which is great for a low budget, highkey shoot.
Ill post it as soon as I can get a gap.
