Every couple of months or so a new piece of gear is released, and we all go gaga over it. Be it a body, a lens, a computer, it does not matter, when a new toy hits the market, we can't help but go ape.

I've learned the following about new gear:

1 – its always overpriced – wait a few months and the prices will drop significantly.

2 – the fanboys will love it, claiming it as the best ever, the opposing brand will "meh" it. They are usually both wrong.

3 – magazines will call anything new a "game-changer" – this is very seldom really the case.

4 – the only time to it up and take notice is when the opposing brand says something good / panics about it.

5 – Any reviews of a brand new piece of equipment are to be taken with a pinch of salt. Wait for long-term real-world reviews to come in

6 – The guy releasing new kit will usually fill the marketing material with stuff you never knew you needed. Chance are, you still don't.

Bonus ball – it doesn't matter what kit you have, if you suck, you suck. New kit won't make you a better tog.

I've always liked the idea of letting someone else waste their money on being a guinea pig before I rush in... :p
