Recent profile by One Small Seed.

Inspired by latexed rockabilly chicks, saccharine Harajuku princesses and vintage fifties’ beauties, Dave Nemeth is an unusual fashion photographer. From Cosmo-styled lasses to tattooed gothic ladies, he explores beauty in all its variant forms. Although he currently works full time as a Trend Analyst, his devotion to the photographic medium transforms him from an amateur to abudding professional. This week, the glow of the Member Spotlight is firmly trained on him.

During Dave’s formal art and design studies, he was heavily influenced by the iconic pop art of Andy Warhol, the gaudy shots of David LaChapelle and renowned director-photographer Anton Corbijn’s work (he’s the man responsible for Depeche Mode’s ‘Personal Jesus’ and Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ music videos). Despite labouring under pop influences that pulsated with vivid colours, Dave’s own photographs are decidedly muted. The majority of his images are significantly bleached, leaving behind only delicate, ghostly hues.

By working freelance, Dave feels free from the suffocating stranglehold major brands often place over their photographers’ creative instincts. His works have been published both in SA and abroad and his very first book, D-Tour, is due out shortly. The release features alternative, fetish and gothic shoots done in SA, LA, Paris and London. Raw and avant garde, many of the photographs are intentionally over-processed to compliment the industrial, vintage feel of the book. Parallel to this, his site – also entitled D-Tour – is constantly growing. It’s fast becoming SA’s answer to international megasites Suicide Girls and Gods Girl. And we all know, local is definitely lekker.
